The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) on Monday established seven polling stations in various cities of the country to hold annual elections of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on October 29.

According to the letter of the Returning Officer nominated by the Executive Committee of the Pakistan Bar Council, Malik Rub Nawaz Noon, there would be seven polling stations, which had been established at Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan and Bahawalpur.

The polling stations would be set up in respective High Court Bar Association offices, except in Islamabad where the polling would be held in the office of Pakistan Bar Council.

The polling would be held from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm with one hour interval from 1.00 pm for Zuhar Prayer. Meanwhile, President Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), Qazi Muhammad Jamil reiterated on Saturday that annual elections of the body would be held on November 26.

Talking to APP on telephone from Peshawar on Monday, Qazi Jamil said the date had been decided by the executive committee of the association, following recent postponement of the elections in the wake of the earthquake disaster. He made it clear that there would be no change in the schedule.

"We have postponed polling of the SCBA elections for November 26 on the demand of the Peshawar High Court Bar Association, which passed two resolutions in this regard."

The SCBA President said, "The Peshawar High Court Bar Association passed a resolution on Monday in its emergency meeting and decided to boycott the elections of the Supreme Court Bar Association, scheduled to be held on October 29, 2005 under the supervision of the Pakistan Bar Council."
